8 d'octubre - Research seminar "Advanced Modelling, Robotics and AI in the Field: Pathways for Agronomists in the Digital Era". Speaker: Ramon Salcedo
06/10/2025
Activity co-organized by EEABB/DEAB as part of the cultural hour. Free access. Language: English
Ponent: Ramón Salcedo
Dr. Ramón Salcedo obtained his MSc in Agricultural Engineering from the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV) and VIA University College (Denmark).
He later earned his PhD at the Valencian Institute of Agricultural Research (IVIA), where he worked on computational fluid dynamics (CFD) modeling to simulate pesticide applications using air-assisted sprayers in citrus orchards.
During his PhD, he conducted research stays at the Von Karman Institute for Fluid Dynamics (VKI) in Belgium and the National Research Institute for Agriculture, Food and Environment (INRAE) in France. After completing his PhD, he pursued a postdoctoral position at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC) (2016–2018), where his research expanded to innovative spraying technologies, including electrostatic sprayers, the use of vigor maps from UAV imagery for variable rate applications, and the agronomic validation of decision support systems (DSS).
He then moved to the US Department of Agriculture/Ohio State University (USDA/OSU, Wooster, Ohio, USA) (2019–2021), where he gained experience in advanced precision application technologies. He later returned to UPC as a María Zambrano postdoctoral researcher (2022–2023).
Currently, Dr. Salcedo is a lecturer at UPC, specializing in fluid mechanics and emerging agricultural technologies. His research focuses on digitalization in agricultural systems, data spaces for AI-driven modeling, and technological applications for sustainable farming. He collaborates with multiple research groups on projects related to crop water management, yield prediction, and sensor integration in precision agriculture.
He also maintains international collaborations in the United States and China in areas such as agricultural sensing and modeling. Dr. Salcedo has authored over 30 articles in peer-reviewed scientific journals indexed in the Journal Citation Reports (JCR) and has participated in several national and international projects, funded by both public and private entities. Additionally, he serves as an Associate Editor for the Spanish Journal of Agricultural Research and is an active reviewer for high-impact journals from Elsevier, ASABE, Springer, and Wiley. He has also presented his research at over 40 national and international conferences.
