Relaciones ecohidrológicas en interfases agroforestales ¿Qué papel tienen en la regulación del agua y del carbono? (AGL2010 - 21012)

Research teams POCIÓ (Protecció Vegetal) and GREA (Grup de Recerca d´Enginyeria Agro-Ambiental) belonging to the Agroalimentary Engineering and Biotechnology Department of UPC with head office in Castelldefels (Barcelona) offer the possibility to do a doctoral thesis to the people who wish to apply for a grant UPC-FPU. PhD's Ramon Josa (GREA), Maite Mas (POCIÓ) and Antoni M. Verdú (POCIÓ) are DEABESAB (UPC) members in the project “Relaciones ecohidrológicas en interfases agroforestales ¿Qué papel tienen en la regulación del agua y del carbono? (AGL2010 - 21012)" [Ecohydrological relationships in agroforestry interfaces. What is their role in the water and carbon regulations?]. Doctoral thesis will attend to the study of soil crusting dynamics and its strength, and the effect of soil crusting on the emergence of seedlings of crop, weed and ruderal species. Methodologies to evaluate the formation and the development of the soil crusts, the same way as those for the studies of seed germination and seedling development will be used. The main research areas are soil science and plant ecology. Experiences in anyone of the research areas, English level, knowledge of statistics and electronics will be appreciate. Interested people are urged to contact with  Drs. M. Mas, R. Josa i/o A.M. Verdú before submitting applications. Submission for applications (call will be open during June 2011)
